Tung Wah Museum has hundreds of plaques and couplets, was bestowed by Royal Court、government officials and related person for the action of disaster relief, in its collection. The plaques and couplets, featuring plenty of allusions, radiate an aura of classical elegance and are fine examples of literary excellence. For spreading the benevolent spirit of TWGHs, the Copper Bookmarks are themed as “Jian Yi Yong Wei” presented to Tung Wah by Viceroy of Zhili Li Hongzhang and three other high ranking government officials in 1884 (10th year of the Guangxu Reign) to thank the hospital for providing relief in the aftermath of the flooding in Shandong and Zhili (present-day Hebei province), ”Le Shan Hao Shi” presented to Tung Wah by Magistrate of Gaozhou Xiao Bingkun in 1896 (22nd year of the Guangxu Region) to thank the hospital for giving food to famine victims in Gaozhou and “Ku Hai Ci Hang” presented to Tung Wah by Hong Kong China Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the hospital’s founding.
